Ruby Hill Railyard

Last fall I was asked to document the second season of the Ruby Hill Railyard, a skiiing and snowboarding terrain park located just south of downtown Denver, Colorado. A unique collaboration between Winter Park Resort, the City of Denver and the Denver Parks and Recreation Department, the fact that Ruby Hill was free, open seven days a week, and had lights on until nine o'clock at night made it a great place to get kids excited about freeriding.

In early January they brought in snowmaking equipment, a snowcat to groom the snow and a crew of Winter Park employees to install six rails. Volunteers from all over Denver helped to maintain the hill for six weeks, through the end of February. An avid skier and snowboarder myself, I really enjoyed shooting these guys and gals ripping it up.

I would like to thank Tim Hutchens at Denver Parks and Rec and Bob Holme at Winter Park Resort for the nod.
